+LONGINES - "The World's most Honored Watch"
"The only watch in history to win 10 World's Fair Grand Prizes and 28 Gold Medals -- to be classified 'first' in competitions organized by the four government observatories; Washington, Kew-Teddington, Neuchatel and Geneva -- official watch for sports and contest associations the world over." Longines Wittnauer Watch Co. INC.
The Longines watch company was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz in the town of Saint-Imier, Switzerland. The company initially produced pocket watches with crown-wheel escapements. In 1867, Longines produced its first chronograph movement, and soon after became known for producing high-quality and accurate timepieces for sports, aviation, and scientific measurement.
In 1912, Longines developed the first automatic timekeeping device for sporting events, which allowed for more accurate timing of races and competitions. Longines became the official timekeeper for many prestigious sporting events, including the Olympic Games, and developed a reputation for producing accurate and reliable chronographs.
Longines Watch Co. is one of the oldest watch manufactures from Switzerland with a wonderful and unmatched history of invention, innovation, patents and awards. Longines made some of the most beautiful watches ever made!

"Every Longines is also a fine piece of jewelry."
Without doubt, this is a rare timepiece! It is a vintage Longines flexible lug writswatch reference 5017, dated from 1942 and made for the Brazilian market.
This watch comes with the original Longines Extract from the Archives certificate from April 2021.
It is a manually wound watch powered by an original Longines mechanical movement caliber 12.68N, sweep second hand, 17 jewels, 18,000 A/h, 41 hours power reserve, Swiss made.
The movement has been fully serviced (June 2023), including a new center second pinion. Speaking of which, sometimes the second hand takes on a jittery movement. This is due to the fact that the the cannon pinion on the 12.68N is slightly larger than the center seconds pinion, and thus, can shake at times. Being one of the first center second 12 series movements, it was an imperfect design, and this is one of the quirks that comes with owning such a watch. The time keeping accuracy is not affected by this, and it can be safely worn.
Meticulously and accurately restored dial with the original blue steel set of hands, bold Arabic Numerals, and “railroad” minute/second track. The dial is signed with the Longines name.
This dress watch is cased in a 34mm gold plated bearing round case with unique flexible lug design. Stainless steel back. It comes on a vintage Italy-made brown signed “L Kalfe Lico” two-piece strap.
Good condition! It runs and keeps great time!

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.
We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
